Auburn Village History Blog

Welcome to the Auburn Village Historical Project blog. We are collecting observations from current and former residents and owners about what it's like to live at Auburn Village and the history of the condominium and area. We're also compiling a record of who lived in each unit from the time the community was first built in the 1930's to the present time and welcome contributions of information to this effort.

Have a story or other information to share about your time at Auburn Village? Please share by telling us about it here. Otherwise, feel free to peruse our latest blog posts below.

Auburn Gardens Apartments was built in 1938 or 1939 at a time when there was a building explosion in the district suburbs as workers flocked to the city for Roosevelt's New Deal. The project to build Auburn Gardens was a million dollar project. The project was a joint venture. Helen Calvert was the original owner of the land. Charles Smith was the builder and his son, Charles Smith was the first manager of the property. The Chaiken Brothers also managed the property. Conversion of the property to condominium was completed around 1980.
